Health Benefits of Turmeric

Turmeric

There are certain items in our kitchen that I consider must haves.  Among the list are garlic, oregano, olive oil, cinnamon and my favorite of all is turmeric.

Turmeric has many healing qualities.  From stopping a cold in its tracks to fighting cancer.  Many studies show that it can aid prevention against Alzheimer’s disease.

I personally drink a concoction when I feel a sore throat or stuffy nose coming on.  Turmeric mixed with black pepper is what I call an army defense against the common cold.
My concoction is this:

1 cup milk heated up (not boiled)
1-2 tsp turmeric mixed in
1/2 tsp or more (to taste) black pepper mixed in
1 tbsp honey (to sweeten or it tastes pretty foul. Also honey to coat the throat)
1/2 tsp or so cinnamon

Mix it all together very well.  Keep mixing while sipping at it, for the mixtures will settle at the bottom of the cup.  It has a very sweet taste to it due to the honey.  It can look pretty intimidating at first trial, but it is well worth the try!

I also learned through researching that if you mix equal portions turmeric with baking soda as a toothpaste it makes the teeth very shiny.  This I have not tried.  Once I do, I will post the results.  I do know that once brushing the teeth after drinking the concoction, my toothbrush was very orange yellow.

One thing to be aware of.  Turmeric does stain.  So be careful when making anything with turmeric.  If it spills a bit on the counter. Use a sponge and don’t dry with a normal clothe towel.  It will stain it.

Turmeric can be added to any meals.  Added to meats, rice dishes, lentils, beans.  You name it.

So kick those bad cells out of your body by utilizing turmeric daily in your diet.  The benefits are amazing!

Added note:
The FDA years ago tried to prevent turmeric from being on the grocery shelves.  For their studies concluded it to be a powerful medicine.  They did not want the general public to know such a thing and fought hard against easy access to this wonder spice.  However, they lost.  Why?  Because it has been used for over 2000 years as a healing spice and they could not fight what has been common around the world.  Hooray for that win!
